Philippine National Police (PNP), honors PO2 Mark Valliant Rey of the 405the regional mobile group. He was awarded the Medalya ng Kadakilaan for saving some passengers of the ill-fated MV Baleno 9 ferry.
Rey was onboard the ferry when it sank off Isla Verde, Batangas City last December 26, 2009. He helped passengers wear life vests and board life rafts, using his service pistol, he fired in the air to get the attention of the passing MV Baleno 5 which rescued and brought them to Calapan City port.
