18 Apprehended as Gun Ban Starts



Last Sunday, around 90 checkpoints in strategic areas around Metro Manila were put in place Police Office according to spokesperson Supt. Rommel Miranda.  NCRPO will be strictly implementing the total gun ban for the duration of the election period and as of its first day, 18 persons were already apprehended.
Of the 18 persons, three policemen, one jail warden, one prison guard and a military personnel were among the “first violators” as per report consolidated by Joint Security Control Centers (JSCC).  PNP Chief Supt. Leonardo Espina said that they have deployed 50,000 policemen in 3,500 mobile checkpoints all over the country to implement Comelec Resolution 8714which cancels all firearms’ permit to carry for 150 days.  Those arrested will be facing criminal charges for violation of the Omnibus Election Code.
