Jute or commonly known as “Saluyot”, a leafy vegetable that is highly identified with Ilokano cuisine is now a fashion statement. Recognized by international fabric producers, saluyot has been found to be earth-friendly and premium source for fibers in making fabrics.
When weaved with cotton, Saluyot becomes an ideal material for making beddings, linens, curtains and table cloth. DOST see this as a great opportunity for the Philippines to provide new natural textiles to the world market.
