Labor Secretary Marianito Roque told media that Republic Act 8504 prohibits AIDS and HIV tests as they constitute discrimination if they are to be included as requirements for employment. This has stemmed from recent reports that there is a growing number of AIDS and HIV incidences in call center workers.
The Labor Department is utilizing the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) in educating and informing workers on the risks involving sexual behaviors which may lead to infection and other sexually transmitted diseases. The law requires all government and private companies to conduct HIV/AIDS education programs.
