Mayor Alfredo Lim Leads Chinese New Year in Manila

In preparation for the coming Year of the Tiger on February 14, Manila Mayor Alfedo Lim leads the Filipino-Chinese Community in Binondo in holding various activities observing the traditional way to celebrate the Lunar New Year.  A parade is scheduled on Saturday, February 13 to usher the start of the celebration, starting from Plaza San Lorenzo Ruiz along Ongpin Street to Sta. Cruz, Damarinas, Quintin Paredes and back to Ongpin.  After the parade, a free entertainment follows.

Beginning Wednesday, colorful lion dances will be featured from 9 in the morning up to 8 in the evening.  Featuring traditional Chinese food “Tikoy” and “Hopia” eating contests will be held daily courtesy of the famous Eng Bee Tin.  To provide added security and order, Lim has asked the Manila Police District to field additional personnel during the weeklong affair.
