Nationalista Party Senatorial Candidate Adel Tamano demonstrated at a media forum yesterday how cheating is possible in an automated system. According to Tamano, the sanctity of the ballot is at stake since they “pass through a number of hands before it reaches the machine” and with that, a lot of possibilities for cheating is open.
One way of cheating can be done is if someone shades the ballots with a pencil and then erases it before giving it to the voter, that way there will be no physical trace of the pencil mark but the machine would still be able to appreciate the pencil shade. If this happens, the machine will interpret it as either invalid, in case the voter shaded a different answer, or counted in favor of the cheater should the voter leaves this item blank.
