Google, Inc. via YouTube has become a movie rental outlet directly competing with itunes, amazon, netfix and blockbuster. YouTube's initial project will showcase movies competing in the upcoming Sundace Film Festival.
For its initial offer of $3.99, a borrower may view a movie within a 48-hour period. Movie outfits are given a free hand for the amount of rental as well as the window time of one day to 45 days, within which a movie may be available for rent on YouTube. Under this scheme, YouTube gets an undisclosed commission per rental.
