In a recording session held at Jim Henson Studios in Hollywood, California, mixed stellar performances of great singers and musicians shone for a worthy cause - to help the January 12 earthquake-stricken Haiti. This year the original "We Are The World - USA for Africa" celebrates its 25th year after its first recording in 1985, a song that was co-written by Lionel Richie and Pop Superstar Michael Jackson.
It was an anniversary project that has been quietly planned months ago and had been scheduled to be recorded the day after the Grammy to maximize celebrity attendance, however, after the devastating quake hit Haiti, the organizers decided to give the proceeds this time to Haiti. The said recording will be shown on February 12 during the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada to be aired on NBC.
Noted celebrities, singers and musicians who participated this 2010 remake were: Barbara Streisand, Celine Dion, Tony Bennet, Brian Wilson and Al Jardine of Beach Boys, Zac Brown, Pink, Jeff Bridges, Vince Vaughn, Usher, Akon, T-Pain, Lil Wayne, Toni Braxton, Snoop Dogg, Harry Connick Jr., Santana and Josh Groban among others.
