The Comelec First Division promulgated Wednesday the disqualification of TV host/actor Richard Gomez to run for 4th district representative in Leyte due to lack of residency. In a petition submitted by Buenaventura Juntilla, a former barangay chairman of Barangay Libertad, Gomez has allegedly failed to establish his residency for one year that is being required by law.
Juntilla maintains that Gomez resides in East Greenhills, San Juan and not in Can Adien, Ormoc City as stated in his Certificate of Candidacy (CoC). Comelec stated in its ruling that Gomez failed to present sufficient proof to show substantial ties to Ormoc City which defeats the spirit of representation. Gomez’ lawyer, Atty. Raymund Cajucom told reporters that they will file a motion for reconsideration within the five-day appeal period.
