Lawyers Launches Election Watchdog

The Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) launched on Tuesday LENTE – Legal Network for Truthful Elections to guard the first ever automated elections this May 2010. Said election watchdog aims to secure a clean and honest electoral conduct.

This nationwide non-partisan organization is composed of volunteers from the legal community such as lawyers, law students and paralegals who have undergone trainings to monitor the legal aspect of the forthcoming elections. IBP OIC Justice Santiago Kapunan stressed the importance of LENTE’s presence since this is the first time the country will engage in an automated poll.
