Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. defeated his Mexican challenger Manuel “Chango” Vargas via third-round TKO to win the WBA World Boxing Association interim super flyweight title in Las Vegas Hilton February 13. The 27 year-old Donaire has now a record of 22-1-0 (win-loss-draw) including 15 knockouts.
Aside from Donaire, featherweight Bernabe Concepcion and welterweight Mark Jason Melligen won their respective matches while former two-time world champion Gerry Penalosa and Ciso “Kid Terrible” Morales lost to their opponents.
