The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) announced that a moderate earthquake was recorded at 10:02AM yesterday, January 21, with an origin at about 148 kiometers east of Virac, Catanduanes. PHIVOLCS’ advised all affected areas to expect aftershocks as the temblor had a shallow depth of focus with energy coming from around 35 kilometers from the ground.
Said earthquake was tectonic in origin and was caused by the movement of the Philippine trench in the Eastern Luzon Section and was felt in nearby areas: Intensity 4 in Legaspi City, Camalig and Bacacay; Intensity 3 in Viga and Virac. No damages was reported in the said areas.
